When I arrive at your home or to any location that makes your heart sing and embodies who you are and what you're all about, I want you to just relax, I know, I know - Easy for me to say, I get to hide behind the lens, but I promise to make it painless for you.
I want you to just be YOU! I'll offer you some gentle guidance to make sure we get the moments you hold dearest today, but mostly we will let it unfold in the most natural way possible.
You see, there are moments and details we don't really know right now will be the ones we miss later, things that change as children and relationships grow. It's the real stuff. Forget what you know about having your portraits taken, this is nothing like the sit and smile down the lens kind of photos you grew up with - it's all about your life, you know the messy, loud, chaotic, in your face moments within your home, belly laughter, tantrums, bad knock knock jokes, wistful quiet, favourite bedtime stories, sibling connections, one on one time with Mum or Dad, DVDs you have to play five hundred and sixty three thousand times per day because that's their favourite (this week), baking cookies (and the obligatory bowl and spoon lick!), the fridge covered in preschool paintings, tiny hands and feet, or not so tiny hands and feet, cuddles in bed, noodle necklaces, standing on stools to reach the unreachable, building with lego, running on the sand, collecting seashells, holding hands, chilling on bed with ipods, just loving one another . . . all the good stuff that makes up the moments that make up your life, here as it is today.
Do you have fur-family members? Great! Bring them on in on our session, they're a part of your world too. I am Mum to one rambunctious fur toddler affectionately known as King B, or THE Bruno-Human, the ever expressive Aussie Bulldog who legitimately thinks he's a person and keeps me on my toes, spreads his toys across my living room, snores the house down all through the night and keeps me company whilst I edit.
So I get it, photos are a family affair, and that means all of you!
INDOOR SESSIONS WILL USUALLY BE SCHEDULED TO SUIT THE TIME OF DAY YOU WANT CAPTURED, AND WHEN YOUR HOME IS MOST LIGHT FILLED. YOUR HOME IS A HUGE PART OF WHO YOU ARE AND WHERE YOU CONNECT AS A FAMILY UNIT. IT IS FILLED TO THE BRIM WITH PIECES OF YOU, AND WHEN YOU ARE THERE YOUR MOMENTS ARE ORGANIC, NATURAL, FREE-FLOWING.
THAT'S WHAT I WANT TO SEE, WHAT I WANT TO CAPTURE FOR YOU...
COUCH HANGS, BREAKFAST BAR CHAOS, BATH TIME... YOUR LIFE, YOUR STORY.
LET'S TAKE IT OUTSIDE
An outdoor session will typically take place in what we photographers like to call the Magic Hour, this is the hour leading into sunset, or when the sun is just rising, when the light is warm, and OH SO soft and wraps around everything in its path, adding a little something extra. This really is an important factor in scheduling your session, it plays a massive part in what makes my images what they are, light filled, emotive, beaYOUtiful and I promise that keeping the kiddies up a tiny bit late, or getting up a little bit early will absolutely be worth it.
